Check it out :: Meet the Farmer Dinners

By Sarah McKenzie

The Red Stag is hosting five dinners with its local farmers to give diners a chance to learn more about their operations.

The first dinner will feature Pat and Kelli Ebnet of Wild Acres in Pequot Lakes. They specialize in raising domestic poultry and wild game birds, and provide many of the Twin Cities top restaurants with poultry.

The second-generation owners oversee a roughly 30-week process for the poultry they raise and maintain a commitment to strong quality and freshness.

The Ebnets will be at the Red Stag on May 3 at 7 p.m. to give a presentation about their work and answer diners’ questions.

The Red Stag will feature a special Wild Acres menu that evening. Highlights of the three-course meal include chicken liver mousse, smoked chicken angliotti and grilled duck breast.

Here’s the schedule for future Meet the Farmer dinners:

—  (June 5, noon) A brunch with Larry Schultz, a farmer from Owatonna;

— (July 8, 7 p.m.) A dinner with Dragsmith Farms of Barron, Wis.;

— (Aug. 5, 7 p.m.) A dinner with Footjoy Farms of Sparta, Wis.; and

— (Sept. 9, 7 p.m.) An evening with The Farm of Hutchinson.

The meals will be $38 per person.

The Red Stag Supperclub, 509 1st Ave. NE, is the state’s first LEED certified restaurant.

Gorilla Yogis head to the Guthrie

Jessica Rosenberg and Nan Gane Arundel, two local yoga teachers, have launched a new unique yoga movement called Gorilla Yogis.

They are holding monthly yoga gatherings at unexpected places throughout town. Their next destination is the Guthrie Theater, 818 S. 2nd St. on April 27.

They are asking people to come out and be a Gorilla Yogis star for a “Sunrise Vinyasa Practice” at the theater from 7–8 a.m.

So far, Gorilla Yogis have had organized two yoga events — one at the Mpls Photo Center and another at the Cedar Cultural Center.

The idea is take yoga “beyond studio walls” and build community.

There’s a suggested donation of $10 for the Guthrie gathering. Proceeds will go to Project SUCCESS, a youth development organization serving middle school through senior high students.
